Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we have a series of questions that we are often asked. We hope to have answered the most common questions in this FAQ page, but if you have a query that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be very happy to provide an answer. In aviation, there are no dumb questions! We would be very happy to oblige you and will take our time to help you to understand any aspect of ballooning that you are unsure of.
How long will we fly for?
Our pilots simply love flying! Most flights are about an hour duration, but quite often, in our small balloons, our pilots will continue the flight for an extra half hour. It is always the pilot’s decision when to land based upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to weather and suitable landing fields ahead. Please remember to allow approximately 4 hours for the whole experience, which includes rigging the balloon and helping to pack away after the flight, the Champagne celbration and finally the return to the launch site.
Where can we fly?
Our main flying season from late March to early November. Flights are available most days in the morning and evenings. During the winter months we continue to fly when the weather is suitable. Our flight vouchers are valid for 12 months, voucher purchased at Christmas for example make wonderful gifts.
What to wear and what to bring
Outdoor clothes and footwear suitable for walk in the countryside will be perfect. The grass may be damp however, so sandals and high heels are not the best. It’s also a good idea for ladies to wear trousers. You will often see lots of wildlife and the scenery is simply stunning, so make sure you bring your camera, with batteries fully charged and maybe a spare memory card.
What does a Balloon flight feel like?
Flying in a hot air balloon is completely unlike being up a ladder or other high place or flying in an aircraft. For starters, the view is incredible! It is a full 360 degree panorama. You are simply floating gently along with the wind. There is hardly a sensation of movement. The balloon does not accelerate away from the ground on take off, it feels as if the ground simply drops away from us. Even the most nervous passenger has told us the experience is just incredible and was not at all as they had expected.
Can i choose a sunny day to fly on?
We only fly in good weather when it is safe to do so. The winds have to be light, it must not be raining or foggy. We can not always guarantee sunshine, but do not let that put you off, even with high cloud above, the views are still breathtaking.
