Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we have a series of questions that we are often asked. We hope to have answered the most common questions in this FAQ page, but if you have a query that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be very happy to provide an answer. In aviation, there are no dumb questions! We would be very happy to oblige you and will take our time to help you to understand any aspect of ballooning that you are unsure of.
How long will we fly for?
Most flights last approximately one hour. Please remember to allow roughly 4 hours from arrival at the launch site for the whole experience.
When can we fly?
Our main flying season from late March to early November. Flights are available most days in the morning and evenings. During the winter months we continue to fly when the weather is suitable. Our flight vouchers are valid for 12 months, voucher purchased at Christmas for example make wonderful gifts.
What to wear and what to bring
Warm, lightweight outdoor clothing and sturdy, waterproof footwear are perfect as the grass is often damp first thing in the morning and it can get chilly at altitude. Don’t forget to bring your camera. Please leave any valuables or breakable items at home
Where will we land?
Due to the weather-dependent nature of hot air ballooning, we do not know exactly where we will land. Your pilot will have a rough idea of the area from the direction you will be travelling, but rest-assured, our crew will be ready and waiting when you land to pick you up and return you back to the launch site.
Can i choose a sunny day to fly on?
We only fly in good weather when it is safe to do so. The winds have to be light, it must not be raining or foggy. We can not always guarantee sunshine, but do not let that put you off, even with high cloud above, the views are still breathtaking.
I'm pregnant, can I fly?
We cannot fly pregnant passengers by law, sorry. Do get in touch to book your celebration flight after the birth though!
How safe is it?
Very! All of our team are highly trained and certified by the Civil Aviation Authority and have an impeccable safety record. Hot air ballooning is a very gentle sport and can be enjoyed by all. We specialise in dealing with nervous flyers and often fly passengers with different mobility issues in specially designed baskets to accommodate them. Do get in touch with our team before you book to discuss your options.
Can my child fly?
We generally ask that all passengers be either over the age of 10, or able to see over the top of the basket unassisted. Unfortunately, we can’t fly anyone younger, and it wouldn’t be much fun for them if they can’t see what is going on either.
Where can we take off from?
We regularly take off from Ashton Court in Bristol, Saltford in Bath and Castle Combe Race Circuit in the Cotswolds. We also have a few private launch sites we can use around the South West. If you would like to take off from a particular place, do get in touch and we can create a bespoke flight package launching from a site of your choosing.
Do you do weddings and events?
We do! We love weddings and events. If you would like to book us for an event, do get in touch and we can discuss how we can make your special day even more spectacular!
